ZBAR Included in Purdue Study

The Purdue University Department of Civil Engineering’s Bowen Laboratory recently began a three-year study to evaluate the corrosion resistance of several types of steel reinforcement, including ZBAR, stainless steel, and other coated and clad materials. The results of this study will be useful in determining proper material selection for future construction projects. We look forward to sharing more information about this study as it progresses.

Texas DOT begins 100-day Accelerated Corrosion Performance Evaluation on ZBAR

The Texas DOT is evaluating ZBAR corrosion resistance using an accelerated procedure that reduces test time and expense when compared to standard ASTM G 109 test parameters. ZBAR previously has been tested in accordance with G 109 and demonstrated outstanding performance. To download the report, sign up for or log in to MyZBAR at http://www.specifyzbar.com/myzbar/myzbar_login.aspx

Once the Texas DOT evaluation is complete, the results will be added to the extensive research library covering ZBAR performance. Stay tuned!

New Project Gallery: Mill Creek Bridge

ZBAR is being used by the South Carolina Department of Transportation in the reconstruction of the Mill Creek bridge on State Road S-26-926 (Enterprise Road) in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The project is slated for completion in November 2011. For photos of the construction in process, visit http://www.specifyzbar.com/galleries/mill_creek_bridge.aspx.

See ZBAR in Use

ZBAR has been used by commercial builders, state departments of transportation (DOTs), the military and others to economically reinforce concrete structures for an estimated 100-year design life. ZBAR is maintenance-free and comparable to stainless steel... at a fraction of the cost.

About ZBAR

ZBAR by industry leader Gerdau is a premium, high-performance reinforcing steel product that is ideal for use in harsh environments with high risk for corrosion, such as marine applications or where deicing salts are used. Successfully tested per ASTM A944 and compliant with ASTM A1055, ZBAR combines A615/A706 reinforcing steel bars with a powerful corrosion prevention system.

Applications for ZBAR can include:
  • Transportation infrastructure (bridges, roadways)
  • Military infrastructure (naval piers, buildings, levees)
  • Commercial construction (hotels, condominiums, parking garages)
  • Institutional construction (universities, hospitals, transit stations)
  • Public facilities (museums, theme parks)
  • Other (seawalls, spillways, pre-cast concrete products)
